Many thanks folks for your replies.

James Yeoman's death certificate shows that he died at Luton on the 28th February 1865. His age was entered as 33. His occuaption was given as 'agricultural labourer'. The informant was Jane Wilmot (no relationship indicated).

His entry in the burial register indicates that he was buried at Luton on the 5th March and that his place of abode was Luton.

I know that's it's unlikely that an agricultural labourer would have a headstone but I'm pursuing all possible options, likely and unlikely.

I'll follow up on the James Hayman suggestion and see what I can find out.

I am aware of the James Yeoman recorded in the 1841 census and resident in the Newton Abbot workhouse. Yes, he's a 'possible'.

Good hit, DoB7.

1861 a Jane Wilmot 60 born Calcutta living in Kingsteignton (Next to Bishopsteignton)

With a church nearby.

Hi Ray,

There was another Jane Wilmot who might have been the informant. The 1861 census has her as a visitor in the Dartmouth home of her son-in-law James Bowden and daughter Jane (47, born Bishopsteignton).  Jane Junior was baptised at Idford ( adjacent to Luton) in 1814. Jane senior is recorded in the 1861 census as aged 72 also born Bishopsteignton.

Neither seem to offer any clue as to the identity of James Yeoman.

I posted this topic in the faint hope that someone might have done a list of the monumental inscriptions for Luton, or that their might be someone in Luton with nothing to do one sunny day. Yes, I'm clutching at straws.

Hi Bolttail,

"Idford" IDEFORD is just over the hill to me, as is Luton.

I actually cannot see anything (info) we can grab hold of.
Which is probably why you asked your original question?.

What sparked your interest in James Yeoman?
