The mysterious Florence Willmore
« on: Sunday 26 August 18 15:36 BST (UK) »

Florence Willmore (or FW as I know her, 'cos I'm fed up writing out the whole name 100s of times) was my grandmother, who had a son Lawrence (or Laurence as he came to be known in late life, acc. to his marriage licence), born 27/12/1920 in Stockton-on-Tees in the Workhouse. His birth cert. states that no father was acknowledged and that FW was a domestic servant at Woodhouse Close, a farm complex west of Bishop Auckland. FW lived in Bishop Auckland in the 50s and 60s (I was there  on holiday several times between 1960 and 1967) and I remember my dad (Laurence) going to her funeral some time after that. Unfortunately I can't find her death anywhere, as I don't know which FW is my gran, and I can't get back any earlier than Dec.1920. My mother's side of the family is traceable back to 1800 and I'd like to even up the picture if possible. Can anyone please help me with this brick wall ?

Hello

Do you know when FW was born?  Her birth registration may show a mothers maiden name if her own parents were married.

Did she ever marry that you know of?

Has Laurence passed away?

With his date of birth it's possible to check the 1939 register to see if he appears with his mother to get her exact date of birth to move forward (or backwards!)

That is interesting,  I had wondered if he was still with family before WW2 so he can be discounted  :)
