There is a baptism at All Saints for a Hannah Lucy Lane on 25 April 1852 at Carshalton, Surrey.  Parents James and Margaret.

The original says born on 19th February 1852, father is a coachman.

Possible for your Hannah or too late?

Even E.E.J Lewis has incorrect the age. According to Ancestry his birth and baptism were in 1849 not 1846.

Makes you wonder who actually gave the info to the enumerator!

Update on this very old post.

I've been looking for this Hannah Lane was aggggeees. Going through my Ancestry matches today I found one with absolutely no surnames I recognised in their tree. On a hunch I put Rotherhithe in the search and came up with the Lewis family.

Seems that my match, 37cm across 4 segments is the descendant of one Edmund Edward James Lewis. Who lived in Rotherhithe in 1881 and had a domestic servant - Hannah Lane (Lapha).
I'm not sure if this is enough proof that he was Hannah's lover and Mary Ann's father but it certainly incredibly coincidental.

Phew that sounds promising.

I love it when threads are resurrected that I forget I ever contributed to!
