Pontlottyn burial inquiry
« on: Monday 27 August 18 18:25 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to find where my grandmother’s grandfather was buried. I have found his burial record:

“Burials in the Parish of St Tyfaelog, Pontlottyn in the County of Glamorgan in the year 1896

Edward Owen 15 Victoria St Pontlottyn 45 yrs July 23”

I’ve read elsewhere on this forum that St Tyfaelog’s does not have a cemetery.  If anyone can point me in the right direction to get this information, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks, Ann

Not sure how your Welsh is, but here's an article/obit from "Y LLan" [A weekly Welsh and English language newspaper of the Anglican Church in Wales, which circulated throughout Wales] on 31 July 1896

http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3683824/3683835/59/

It notes that he was buried in Fochrhiw Cemetery , attended by a numerous crowd who came to pay their last respects. Service take by Rev T Rees, vicar, and his faithful assistants last Tuesday.

It doesn't tell you an awful lot about the man, except he had a short but burdensome final illness (although his health hadn't been good for a while and it suggests he had number of workplace accidents) and was a quiet neighbour, good Christian etc.

Ann, try Rhymney cemetery - Pontlottyn is at the southern most end of that town. The cemetery comes under the jurisdiction now of Caerphilly County Borough Council - if you give them a call they might be able to check the records for you

Pentwyn Churchyard, (St Marys) Fochriw. Following Mabel's find.

https://www.peoplescollection.wales/items/487246  spreadsheet, by surname listed in alphabetical order.  Edward Owen of address you gave is buried here and listed.

https://www.peoplescollection.wales/items/487249 registers

If problems viewing spreadsheet, click on Author name and scroll down to burial spreadsheet, seems to load better. You may find other family members!

Good luck,

Cas

No luck viewing the spreadsheet. I did as you suggested but can only get as far as Ballard.

Once in spreadsheet there is a small arrow top right corner, it gives the option to view in books..much easier to scroll through. I am using an iPad. There is also a print option but it has 130 pages.

If further probs let me know who you are looking for within area, will take a look.

Thanks for that. I'll have another look ! However, if it doesn't work ............ PRICE, anyone Price! There were about 11 children in the family I'm looking at, so quite possibly several of the family are buried there.
