Hello everyone,

I have been working on the De la Mer (van der Zee) family, following the family backwards in time from Utrecht to Canterbury. I am a direct descendant (14 generations) of the so-called Strangers Michel de la Mer and Marie Druon. Michel de la Mer was first mentioned in the baptism of Lea de la Motte – her father Andrien being Michel’s brother in law - 22 October 1581 (English date) in Canterbury as a witness. It has been suggested to research the possibility that the family travelled from Dover to Canterbury. Does anyone have access to a transcription of the registers of the French Church in Dover?

There was a French Church in Dover from the 1640s.

Ancestry has baptisms from 1646, marriages 1647 and burials from 1685.

Since there was no French Church in the 1570s-1580s, could my ancestors have been members of one of the "regular" churches in Dover? Are these registers accessible as well?

says that 100 Walloons arrived in Canterbury in 1575 and they originally used St Alphege Church.
