Hello,

I am looking for information about Rachel MILLAR (b. 1781 Yester, d. 1839 Inveresk). She married John FORTUNE (b.1758 Innerwick, d. 1814 Yester) and had at least 2 children with him (James FORTUNE b. 1812, George FORTUNE b. 1806).

But she also had at least 3 other children with Richard SANDILAND:
- Margaret Sandlands, b. 1810
- Walter Sandlands
- Richard Sandilands, b. 1818 Inveresk, d. 1873 Musselburgh

Margaret was born before the first husband died and the last Fortune child was born.

I would like to know if anyone has any information about this family.

Are you sure you have the right parents for James who was baptised in 1812?
FreeReg has this child (born 28th December 1811) as the son of John Fortune and Agnes Golightly.
Where were Margaret and Walter born?

John Fortune / Rachel Millar married 1805 Yester , East Lothian.
Children -
George b. 1806 Yester East Lothian.
James(FORTON on SP) b. 1810 Aberlady East Lothian.

Richard Sandilands / Rachel Millar married 1813 Haddington , East Lothian.
Children(all births/baptisms Inveresk Midlothian) -
William 1814
John 1816
Richard 1818
Walter 1819
Jane 1821
Margaret 1823

If it's the same Rachel Millar , then the dates found so far would sense  :-\

You can check FS/SP for exact dates for the above events and anything I've missed  :)

Something odd here.
If it's the same person, Richard Sandilands would have married Rachel Fortune, right?   ???

In any event, isn't this a more likely death for the (first) husband?

Thank you both. That is really helpful, and makes a lot more sense!

A death for John Fortune (husband 1) in 1810 is also reassuring.  :D

I will dig out the details on Scotland's People.
