Just an off the cuff thought...........could Minette have been your grandmother's godmother?

Minette may have been given the honorary title of Auntie even though she wasn't.

You obviously don't have any other correspondence of this nature otherwise you wouldn't have asked for suggestions.

Minette mentions presents so presumably your grandmother had sent her some at some point.

Have you located any baptism record for your grandmother?  It may not of course mention any godparents, not all baptism records do.

Do you think it may be worth contacting Pate House to see if they have any records of residents in the 1970s or earlier?

Could Minette have been a resident there at some point?

Born   14 Nov 1897
Baptism 15 Dec 1897
no godparents listed

wrote to Pate House about a month ago but no acknowledgement as yet

found an online tree of the Smith family of Owlpen but Margaret's profile is the only one without a picture, the rest all look "well to do"

or maybe it's a completely different Mrs Williams I need  :-[

To me Auntie would imply a lady older than your grandmother, ie a generation above her.  I wouldn't have thought that a contemporary of your grandmother would refer to herself as Auntie, would you?

I'll have a poke around in the 1939 and see if there are any Minette's born about the 1870s.

May I ask where your grandmother was born?  Are you willing to tell me her name or would you rather not?

What is the postmark on the card?   Auntie Minette might not have been from Cheltenham, she just happened to be passing on the address on someone who lived in Cheltenham!
