Unless you are looking at a different Mellin/Edwards marriage.......

I can see the original marriage record which says:-

Samuel Mellin of the parish of Lantwit near Neath, bachelor, and Sarah Edwards of this parish, spinster....

married on 26th May 1805 - witnesses appear to be Mary and Edward Howell and I think the surname of the other two is Lewis but it is difficult to read.

Married by John Griffiths Curate.

Forgot to say that they were married at St.Thomas, Neath

It appears that the Peploe/Peplow name went down the line.  Entering Samuel Mellin shows up quite a few.

It may be that your particular line came from Glamorganshire.

Here is a birth record for one from 1893 which you may already have:-

The details of his parish only means he was living there at the time, not that it was his home parish.

A James Mellin married a Jane Peploe 16/6/1771 Bristol, Gloucestershire.

With the burial you found there for 1773 looks like this couple could be your Samuel's parents.

As the MELLIN's occupations were Painters - they could have travelled anywhere!

Saml PEPLOE MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, Bristol - 23 August 1773

Family Search  (burials)

Mary MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, Bristol : 11 December 1765
Ann MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, Bristol : 21 November 1769
Mary MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish: December 1765
Mary MELLIN - buried at St Michael Parish, 4 April 1766

---

The original Parish Registers may give ages/residence etc.

The Bristol Records Office online Will's Catalogue doesn't list any PEPLOE(W)s or MELLIN

Thank you Girl Guide,Annette7,Osprey and Captown for your input to my query I have been searching this family for 30+ yrs and have been lucky enough to put all the pieces together my only brick wall is finding the birthplace of my 5x g/grandfather but it looks like Annette has possible found the parents James Mellin and Jane peploe. Yes Captown my greatgrandfather John Mellin was a painter/artist/sculptor and his father also Samuel was a painter but most of Samuel 1779 sons were blacksmiths.   Thank you all now to find Samuel Peploe birth..
