Completely Stumped
« on: Saturday 01 September 18 14:25 BST (UK) »
Hi

I started this thread in the 'Durham' forum, looking for John Dixon born c 1905 in Gateshead, it now transpires that he was actually born in Newcastle.

He appears firstly in 1911 with his now widowed father, John, and elder siblings; Thomas born c1887, Kate, born c1893, George W, born c1894, Albert, born c1895, Ellen, born c1899 and Elizabeth, born c1901.

All children are listed as being born in Newcastle.

His father, John, had been born c1859 in Windermere, Westmorland and was a plasterer.

Going back 10 years, John Dixon's wife is named as Emma Dixon, born in Newcastle c1867, and they have an additional daughter, Annie, born c1888 (she had married by 1911).

I can't find any trace of a marriage between John and Emma, (john states that he would have been married for 25 years in 1911) nor can I find a death between 1901 and 1911 for her.

I can't find any birth registration for the children that have a common mmn, nor can I find John, who was listed as a plasterer in 1901 too, prior to this census!

Can anybody trace, him, Emma, their marriage or her death??  Totally stumped!

Thanks

Sue

Got him!!

I believe he appears as John D (Dixon?) Gott in 1891, living in Newcastle with a wife, Emma and children, Thomas, Annie and John (who must have died)

His occupation was a plasterer.

John Gott married Eliza Emma Whitfield in Newcastle in 1886.

Go back 10 years, and he appears in Windermere, as Gott, and as a plasterer.

At last!!!

Sue
