Lots of Scots moved to the UK, America, Australia and others in the 1800s during census era. But also many did move out of Scotland in the 1700s. I did hear there was issues with farming in the 1700s in Scotland which made many of them leave Scotland. Lowland Clearances 1760-1830 etc and Highland clearances.
I know my ancestor John Stewart moved to County Durham in about 1750-1770. Not sure of the exact date but he was born in Selkirk, Scotland in 1738, and died in 1815 in Bishop Auckland in CO Durham in 1815. He had children later in life and luckily the PR's gave his place of origin.
I have noticed many Scottish surnames in Co Durham and Northumberland and some in Yorkshire in the 1700s. And of course I have come across Scottish sounding names in families in London such as Archibald Stewart in the mid 1700s in London.
There was probably a good wave of Irish migration to England before the Great Famine.
