John Michael Riordon born c. 1833
« on: Saturday 01 September 18 18:44 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I am looking for help locating the above John Riordon who was born c.1833. He married Margaret Longster Clark in Jul-Sept 1855 in Stockton, Durham, England. I can find two children they had -

Mary Jane Riordon, Oct-Dec 1856 - Jan-Mar 1857 (Stockton, Durham)
Daniel Francis Riordon, Jan-Mar 1858 - ? (Hartlepool, Durham)

In the 1861 census, John is part of the Royal Navy, 27.5 years old, Married, 2nd Captain, and is listed as being born in CARRIGOLINE in Co. Cork.

I cannot find the family in 1871, but have found a John Riordon living in Chiswick. He was born c. 1834 in Co. Cork, he is a Sergeant, living with wife Cordie (Flanagan) who was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Two children are also there - John Riordon (6) born in Montreal, and Frederick Daniel (2) born in Winchester, England.

But - If anyone can help me locate John Michael Riordon in Co. Cork that would be amazing, thank you.

Keelan

If your John in the 1861 census was serving on HMS Doris then it would appear that he was nominated to the Coastguard service, with a posting to Ireland in 1863. I believe that you need to purchase the following service records from the National Archives website for a fuller picture of his navy service: ADM 139/46/4567 & ADM 188/63 Official Number (ON) 75320.

I would order the first record to ensure it's the right man before committing to the second.
