Finding my aunt
« on: Monday 03 September 18 22:39 BST (UK) »
I was named after my aunt, her name was Dorothy May Odom and she was married to a pilot. I live in Canada and never hear anything anymore. I am thinking that she must be deceased by now as she was born in 1914. None of us in the family were told anything if she has died. I saw a tombstone with her name on it that she died in 1991 but as I visited her in 1996 something is wrong there. She lived in Ithaca NY when I was there.I really want to know and where she is buried. Thank you

Was she born 14 Aug. 1914 in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada ?

Was her maiden name "Wroe"

Was she married to William Paul Odom who died in 1949? Were they divorced at the time of his death?

Did she have son born in 1944?

======

If so, these are the records I'm seeing.

Marriage: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFQV-9SV

There numerous articles about William P's death in Sept. 1949. He was a pilot and was killed in an air accident.

Immigration record in 1948 gives her DOB

Their son. Numerous articles mentioning he is the son of Dorothy W Odom and the late William P Odom.

Public records: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QJCC-6GJ9

Can't find any death records for her...possibly still alive??

Is this her?

This Dorothy on the Florida death index appears to have a different birth date than the one on the passenger list.

Using FamilySearch, I found a lady with similar details, living in New York in 2003.  I will send the information by pm since we've not yet confirmed her passing.  I have not yet followed up on additional records for this lady.

This is her, 100%. But she would be 104  if she was alive] The last I knew of her was she owned an apt building in Ithaca N Y I was there in 1996 and haven't heard a word from her since then. Can someone die in the US without it being recorded by the government? Thank you for your research, I appreciate it, Mykin

Hi Mykin:

I am right in the middle of another project but I hope to get back to this thread tonight (it is midday here).

I would think if she passed away, there should(?) be some record of her passing.

Perhaps someone will find information before I return to the thread but if not, I will resume looking around tonight.  Lisa  :)
