Eleanor Woodhouse married Edmund de Hastings
« on: Tuesday 04 September 18 02:25 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know the correct birth years for Eleanor Woodhouse and Emund de Hastings please. Some say 1436 for her and 1430 for him. Others differ. They had a son, Roger, in 1464, who apparently married Amecia Lewis, so Eleanor being born in 1460, as some people record, isn’t going to work. Also, does anyone know who Eleanor’s parents were. Edmund’s, I am fairly sure, were John de Hastings born 1411 and Anne de Morley born 1413. Please correct me if any of this information is wrong. Thank you.

Can you give some indication of in what Country / County / Town this marriage is supposed to have taken place ?  And where did your information come from ?
There are not many records that go back that far and anything that helps to reduce the search areas and identify the people concerned would be helpful. :)

Could not find an official record of the marriage. The consensus is they were married about 1456. Info has come from the usual genealogical sites such as ancestry, geni etc and I know these aren't exactly reliable, so have tried to bring up anything I could by googling and there's not much out there. I am going with my Edmund being born in Yorkshire England as his father, John, was supposed to have been born somewhere there and his son, Roger, was supposed to have been born at Roxby, Yorkshire. Stirnet.com had Eleanor Wodehouse (Woodhouse) marrying Edmund Hastings (no year) and then John Bosone, who died 1489 (again, no mention of marriage year). She was supposed to have been the daughter of Sir Edward Wodehouse of Kimberley and Jane Swaything. I can understand if you reckon it will be a waste of time searching for answers on this subject. The dates I come up with, are all over the shop, that's when I can find a date on any of it.  ???

This book says Eleanor is 31 years old when she wed her last husband Thomas Cressener of Morley, Norfolk Esq

Also that John Bozun (Bosone) had a son with her called John Bozun (his heir). John Bozun Snr dies in 1848 (her death date needs to be cleared up if possible)

1889 minus 31 years makes Eleanors birth date circa 1458 at least (She would have remarried quite quickly)

Yes, I did, have amended it. Typo.

So we know where they got the rough birth date from.

I don't think the Geni profiles for her parents are correct with the birth years.

"Roger, in 1464, who apparently married Amecia Lewis" Might have been the son of another Eleanor (? her first name is unknown) --->
Roger HASTINGS
Born: 1464, Edlingham, Northumberland, England
Father: Edmund HASTINGS
Mother: Dau. MIDDLETON
Married: Amicia LEWIS 26 Jun 1484 (lic)

Many of those geni profiles think Edward Hastings and Eleanor Wodehouses date of marriage was  1476 in Kimberley, Norfolk, England (which would have made her about 18 years)

Givens/Normand (Dysart)
Clark/Lister (Dysart)
Wilkinson/Simson (Kettle or Kettlehill)

Edmund Hastings, born 1442,died 1487, Overstrand, Norfolk
His father was John Hastings (9° B. Hastings) and his mother Anne Morley

He married Eleanor Wodehouse (b. 1458) (dau. of Edward Wodehouse and Jane Swathyng) 1476, Kimberley, Norfolk

Children were
William (b. 1477)
John  (b. 1480)
Edmund (b. 1484)
Anne Hastings

Then you have the other Edmund Hastings
Born 1431, Edlingham, Northumberland, England
His father was John Hastings (not Edward Hastings)
He married the ? Middleton
His child was Roger Hastings that married  Amicia LEWIS 26 Jun 1484 (by licence)

So there are some mixups with men of the same names born to the same extended family *nods* You'd have to be very careful and double check everything with the oldest data you can find maybe?
