Mary Tink of East Stonehouse c.1799
« on: Tuesday 04 September 18 16:10 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

The above Mary Tink married William Kitto on 2nd August 1799 in St George, East Stonehouse. She had 2 children that I can find, one being William Kitto b. 12th March 1802 in Devonport. He went on to have 6 children, one being called Charles Tink Kitto b. 7th June 1835 in Stepney, Middlesex.

I have been unable to find any info on a Mary Tink apart from a Mary Ann Tink born May 1762 in Stoke Damerel to Joseph Tink/Tank & Catherine Atkinson, but that would mean she was 37 when she married William Kitto.

Can anyone suggest other resources I could use to be sure of the right Mary Tink? Or might it be a dead end. This line of my family tree seems to all end in dead ends around 1800.

Hope you're all having a good day!

Keelan

Do you have confirmation that Mary was a spinster when she married?

Presume she was if she used her surname as a middle name.

When was her other child born?

Have you got a death for her to give an age?

I don't, I haven't been able to find an image or a transcription that lists the marital condition of Mary Tink. In the marriage record she didn't use a middle name, it is just down as Mary Tink. The possible baptismal record I found gives a middle name of Mary Ann.

The other child is Ann Kitto born October of 1800 in Stoke Damerel. I've found a possible marriage for Ann Kitto to a William Parish on 27th February 1821 in Stoke Damerel. Nothing concrete.

Both the Kitto/Tink lines are seemingly unsolvable.

For info a family tree has her born in Cornwall 1770.

Mother Elizabeth Paull/Tink 1736-1781.

No father shown on the tree so don't know where the Tink name has come from as Elizabeth' parents down as John Paull and Susannah - maybe Tink was her mothers' name?

Something to investigate anyway!

I think I also found that family tree, and used the info, but then because it was in St Agnes, in Cornwall, and not Devon, I felt it was merely guesswork I was going on.

There is a death for a Mary Kitto in 1804 in Stoke Damerel, aged 60. Then all the others are variations of the name Kitto, like Kitt/Kade/Keith.

The names Kitto and Tink do seem more common in Cornwall.  ??? ???
