McBrides in Surrey
« on: Wednesday 05 September 18 06:57 BST (UK) »
Hi all, submitting my request for anyone related to or knows of any McBrides in the Surrey region. I can trace my great-grandfather, William McBride from 1870 when he married Ann (or Annie) Bashford at Croydon. Of the children they had, (all born between 1873 and 1883) there was my grandfather, George, who moved to New Zealand in 1901. William and James who lived all their lives in Surrey. Thomas who was killed in 1914 when his ship, the Rohilla sunk. Alex also went to NZ. John lived all his life in Surrey and was a milkman or grocer, with a horse and cart around the beginning of last century. The sole daughter, Grace married a Jack Wallwork in 1900. If any of these names ring a bell with anyone I would be pleased if you could contact me.

Hi Wayne

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

I'm not a McBride but have you found the family on the 1871 census at Coulsden near Croydon living with Marian Bashford aged 6 and Anne's father George ?

William shows his place of birth as Scotland, Anne is a local lass born Coulsdon
