Looking for a grave - Reading 1931
« on: Wednesday 05 September 18 15:21 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone find (or advise me where to find) the details of a burial.

Joseph JAMES died (?28 August) 1931 and was buried in Reading Cemetery.

I know about Joseph's life and family, but what I haven't managed to find is the grave number and whether or not there was a gravestone.

I've tried findagrave, billiongraves, familysearch and others, but no luck so far.

Philip

Hi Philip,
 This one's from FMPast.
Joseph JAMES

Burial date   02 Sep 1931
Church:   London Rd Cemetery (consecrated)
Place :   Reading

Was he the one in the institution?(That was this person's last given address.).

Don't know if this will help:

Jebber
- that link is for applying for Service Records from the Ministry of Defence.

(ADDED) I have now found http://www.reading.gov.uk/ with a link to "Burial and cremation register searches" - so I clicked on it and got "Page not found"

This is not going to be as simple as I had hoped!  :(

Many thanks, Maureen.  I didn't have the burial date, or the "London Road Cemetery" so that's a big step forward.

The old thread on Rootschat had a dead link to the cemetery website, but now I have the proper cemetery name I'm off to go g00gling again to track down the grave number.

Philip

(ps - yes he was in Broadmoor!  http://www.chesshistory.com/winter/extra/womersley.html gives the reason)

If he died whilst in the care of the authorities, I would venture to suggest he is most probably in a common grave without a headstone
