Hello
There is a military record for a John Lambert 17 in the English regiments serving in Canada records on Ancestry.
He was born 1789 in Gisborn(e) Yorks a weaver enlisted 29.10.1806 in 24th Dragoons.
dark complexion,dark hair,grey eyes 5ft 7in
He was discharged 24.10.1818 but I have no subscription for that.

The nearest baptism I can see at Gisburn
John Lambert s of John and Peggy Lambert 28.5.1786.
The parents marriage 3.3.1785 John Lambert and Margaret Rothwell age 26 and 27

Those early marriage records don't name parents.  Both parties were living in Lobo Township at the time of the marriage and the witnesses were a Levi and Alexander Merricle.  Married by James Jackson, by banns, Minister of the Canadian Wesleyan Methodist Church, London District.  Note that Middlesex County did not come into being until 1850, so the proper location is known as London District in that timeframe.

Altho' married by a Wesleyan Methodist Minister, both the 1851/52 and 1861 Census show them as Baptists.   Both census also show them living in Lobo Township.

John Lambert (1789–1867) was born in England. He served in the British Army and also in the War of 1812 in Canada. He settled in Lobo Twp., in about 1828. In 1834 he married Mary Ann Smith, daughter of William Smith and Mary Ann Staples. Mary Ann died in 1884 at the home of her son Cornelius in Warwick Twp. Of the eleven children of John and Mary Ann Lambert, all of whom were born in Lobo, several at one time or another lived in Warwick Twp.

Other online postings seem to indicate that John was born in Kent, England.  The John Lambert noted in the military records served in the 24th Dragoons Guard, but that regiment was never in Canada and was disbanded in England in 1819. Also noted that he served in India and returned to Europe in 1818.

There are other John Lamberts of roughly the right age who also served in various regiments -- 31st Regiment of Foot (born Newmarket, Co. Suffolk, enlisted at age 19 in 1905 at Hull); 14th Regiment of Foot, 2nd Battalion (born Hertford, enlisted at age 29 in 1815 , previous service with the 30th Regiment of Foot, 2nd Battalion, pensioned off in 1818);  81st Regiment of Foot (born Dawley, Shropshire, a forge man, enlisted at age 20 in 1804, died at Gibraltor in 1805 -- so I guess strike him off the list!).

Now to figure out which of those regiments were in Canada.

Notation for John Lambert of the 24th Dragoons in the Chelsea Pensioners' List shows he died 3 November 1849, and living at Halifax, so not your John.
