Most likely not RC in Ireland, which may help. All Civil Reg Birth results for Ebb*tt  up to 1864 will be non-RC.

The Indexes to the Civil Records of Irish Births, Deaths and Marriages date from 1864 with non-Roman Catholic Marriages recorded from 1845.

You have also found a Mary Ebbitt, 17 years and Elizth Ebbitt 18 years, both GI Servant from Dublin who sailed on the ship "Hereford" from London on 31 October 1877 and arrived in Lyttelton, NZ on 19 January 1878... but is there any connection to Flo?  If so, does any record name any of their fathers?

Thanks for the information.
I have not been able to find further info on Mary and Elizth Ebbitt so far so I don't know if there is any connection with Florence.
Someone on the NZ Board had suggested that she may have changed her name on arrival in NZ  to Florence and/or added Beryl which is a possibility - how common is this name in Ireland?

I have found on FamilySearch an Agnes Ebbett 18 years from Dublin, General Servant who arrived in Lyttelton, NZ ex London on the ship "Ionic" on 22 Novemer 1883.  The passenger list records that she was "Not Nominated" which could suggest that she did not have family/employer in NZ.

I have not yet been able to determine when Florence arrived in NZ.  However a newspaper article refers to a Florence Ebbitt employed as a Housemaid at a hotel in Governors Bay, Lyttelton, NZ in December 1879.

Florence Ebbitt married on 4 March 1880 in Christchurch, NZ.
