A couple of things from the 1838 marriage:-

Ellinor Jones of Tydweiliog, father John Parry, labourer.

William of Llaniestyn, father Robert Jones, labourer.

Witnesses - William Williams and John ??

The transcription I have seen of the 1838 marriage gives Elinor's father as Robert Jones lbr,(the same as William Roberts father!).This needs further investigation and also casts into doubt the Tydweiliog record I had in mind where the father is John Jones.

Roger

I have seen the image giving John Parry now.It makes me believe the yffor record has been mis-transcribed.

Hi Suz,

I also looked at the 1891 census and viewed the page before and after the record for John Roberts. I found Jane with her husband Thomas Turner living next door. Shows the value off looking more thoroughly at the census return pages adjacent to the search subject. I know at the 1881 census that Jane was living at the Sportsman Inn, Nevin.

Now I can narrow the birth certificate down to 3 possibles. I have ordered the most likely one to start with, so fingers crossed.

Update:

I eventually ordered all three birth certificates that were showing a mother's maiden name of Jones. The first two were incorrect (wrong father christian name). The last one I received showed a Jane Roberts, born on 7th January 1855. Father William Roberts, a Seaman Merchant Service, not a Labourer as shown on the marriage certificate of Jane. The mother is listed as being Jane Roberts, formerly Jones. I have based the search on the years 1853, 1854 and 1855 as her death certificate states that she was 61 when she died on 28th January 1916.

I found this family in 1851, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901. William was listed in occupations  Mariner in 1851 and Fisherman thereafter.

It looks likely that Jane's mother may not have been a Jones after all.

Back to the drawing board.

Update: I think I now have the right birth certificate.

Jane Roberts, born 18th April 1853, Tan Y Garog Dinas, Llaniestyn. Father is William Roberts, Labourer and mother, Ellen Roberts (formerly Parry).

I also then found the baptism record, which took place on the 15th May 1853.

I will search for the marriage of William and Ellen now.

Thank you everyone for your help.
