John Stokes
« on: Friday 07 September 18 11:10 BST (UK) »
 Can anyone help .
I have this family all born Wrexham,
1841 Toxteth
John Stokes  50 bricklayer  (died 1854 aged 69.)
Mary Stokes  45
 Edward Stokes  15
 William Stokes  15
 Charles Stokes  15
 Nathan Stokes  13
 Jophines Stokes  10 male ???

In 1851, John 67 and Mary 65 are in Toxteth Park, Liverpool , with  Edward 31   and Nathan  27 ?
The other sons John 25   William 28  Charles 26  are in another household in Liverpool.

I can only find this marriage on Family search,  and can`t find any baptisms. If this John is a bricklayer then he might be the right one.
John Stokes / Mary Phoenix    Marriage   18 Apr 1814 Brymbo, Denbighshire.

Any more info on John and Mary would be great,  I have them in census after 1851, it`s just previous  to 1841 I need help with.

Just on thought as to Baptisms, they could well be non-conformist.

He's not my John Stokes, although i did wonder for a second.  As WR says, they  could be non-c. All mine were Methodists.

Have you tried FreeReg or Blackwell?

John Stokes / Mary Phoenix    Marriage   18 Apr 1814 Brymbo, Denbighshire.

John Stokes is down as a builder. By licence.

Witnesses Edward Stokes and Jane Parish.

Wrexham not Brymbo - as most of them are!

Added - I'm sure this might have come up before.

Also married Wrexham.

Familysearch copied from FindMyPast and FindMyPast have misclassified all the Wrexham records to Brymbo before Brymbo was a separate parish.

For info

Anything that has Brymbo before 1844 is most probably wrong and should be Wrexham. The only way to find out is to check the original records or Clwyd FHS booklets

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/Brymbo

Quote
The new parish of Brymbo was formed by an Order in Council on 6 December 1844, out of the ancient parish of Wrexham. It contained the township of Brymbo and part of the township of Broughton.

There is an 1828 will at NLW of Edward Stokes, bricksetter in which he nominates his son John as beneficiary/executor.
(There is also an 1854 will of James Stokes,Wrexham, coachbuilder).

Roger
