RE Sunderland daily echo and shipping Gazette look up please
« on: Sunday 09 September 18 12:31 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out the circumstances surrounding my 2xgreat aunts death.
She was Sarah Beatrice Anderson b1909 d1932
Her husband was Alfonso McFarland b1907 d1932.
Both from Sunderland. They had 2 daughters Elizabeth Ann McFarland b1928 and Beatrice McFarland b1931
If anyone is able to help me find out how Sarah Beatrice and Alfonso died I would appreciate it.
Their 2 daughters were raised by Sarah Beatrice's parents along with their own children.

I think that they were both burried in mere knolls cemetery. I also think that Sarah Beatrice died shortly before Alfonso

Hi Rosie
Thank you for your reply. I thought that maybe there may have been an accident or other reason that they both died so close together that may have been in the news.

I have just added details of Alfonso on the other post.  I can't see any other mention of them other than the announcement of their deaths

Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette
02 July 1932

McFARLAND At 14 Church St, Monkwearmouth, on June 30, aged 23 years. Sarah Beatrice (nee Anderson) beloved wife of Alfonso McFarland. Interment at Mere Knolls Cemetery on Monday, cortege leaving residence at 2.0 pm, Friends please accept this intimation

Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette
19 July 1932

McFARLAND At 43 Devonshire Street, July 16, aged 24 years. Alfonso, beloved husband of the late Sarah Beatrice McFarland. Interment Mere Knolls Cemetery Wednesday., cortege leaving residence 2.o o’clock. Deeply mourned

Nothing coming up that would suggest anything other than natural causes. A death cert would give the cause of death. If you go via the GRO site (and can live without the fancy paper cert) you can get a .pdf of the register entries for £6 each, rather than the £9.25 for an official cert. You get the same info, just not on posh paper.

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it. I will have to order the death certificates for both of them. It must just be a sad coincidence.

Thanks Boo
I really appreciate it. It just seemed odd that they both died so close to each other but I guess these things happened more often then.

Could have been any number of things, and perhaps different causes of death for each of them. Sadly the only source I know of for that info is the death certs/.pdfs

The Mere Knolls Cemetery register images are available on Family Search

Both on the same page (though not in the same grave, so the grave was not purchased)
