I am sorry I keep going over things and the age differences do seem to show that the two men are not the same person but I do like a mystery (of sorts)  ;)

The Earsdon J.T.McGonigal , born 1850ish shankill belfast, joined the west riding 76th regiment underage as a drummer under the name Thomas Hughes Mcgonigal. reg number 1220. in 1865.
In 1891 he came to england and his wife mary spellman aged 30.She died shortly after arrival. The 1911 cencus has him living at his son Daniels family aged 49 and a widower in shiremoor, earsdon in north east england.

The Army record is available so that is fine.
1911 is fine - we can see that.
Do you have evidence that he came to England in 1891?
Do you know for sure that Mary in 1891 is Mary Spellman?
Do you have the two children or John in 1891 and 1901?

Where is your JT living on his marriage?

my jt was married in tynemouth in 1914 to olga clark and lived there there till his death.[I have the marriage cert.] I am desperatly trying to remember where I read about mary spellman and I have nothing printed off on the subject.
I think I got this info from a family tree on ancestry.com.by username Teley187
I need to renew my subscription for ancestry and is on my home work list to look at their tree again and maybe contact them for further info to see if there is any link between the 2 jt's.
If you have access to ancestry, its this usernames tree I would be looking at again for the info your asking about.Give it a try if youve access to ancestry.I will have a try tomorrow evening and see if thats where I read about mary spellman etc.

I have seen the trees before and noted the death of Mary Spellman.
There is no verification but that is not say it isn’t her as there is a note that she died on arrival so there may well have been a family story.

There is no sighting however of any of the family before 1911 in the tree.

Elsewhere in 1891 census, there is a Mary McGonigal in hospital in Newcastle.

Let’s hope you get a response.
I wondered if there was a death in Yorkshire, in case he went to live near his daughter but nothing.  :-\

Where was your John living when he married?
Do the witness names help at?

m j.t. served in the donegal artillery till 1908/9.He moved to the northeast, probably whitleybay by 1912. In 1914 he was married to olga and moved to nearby tynemouth where they remained till hid death.Wedding certificate witness's were William Dent and phyllis bond.[if i read their surnames correctly.Ive not persued the witness angle at all.

I am a little confused!

When Mary Spelman marries in 1881 her husband is recorded as Thomas John
When Daniel is born in 1882 his father is recorded as Thomas

If the JT Mcgonigal born c1850 was also using the name Thomas Hughes Mcgonigal why have the familysearch website got the records below for a JTMcgonigal/Thomas Hughes Mcgonigal born c1865/1870.
