How did you do this? When I tried to make it clearer and brighter the face of the girl on the left became like a white mask.

I tried 2 ways: Adjusted the  level to the edge of the data, reduced noise and slightly adjusted contrast and brightness

Made a background copy then adjusted the opacity of the top layer so it wasn't too dark.

What is the trick

Hi Jane,
  I painted a quick mask over the faces so they wouldn't blow out when I adjust the brightness/contrast.

I'm not sure if PS Elements has quick masking.
Cleary, Doran, Boland, McCooey, McManus, O'brien, Martin, Savage, Wallis, McCollister, Wood.  (More to come soon)
