Elsie Catherine Kirby 1911 census
« on: Tuesday 11 September 18 12:30 BST (UK) »
Just going through my tree and I noticed I didn't have a 1911 census record for my grt grt nan.
She was born Elsie Catherine Burt 1889 Leicester. Daughter of Christopher Burt and Elizabeth Lavinia Ellis.
She marries William Kirby 1910 Leicester 2nd Quarter.

I have William Kirby as born 1882 Leicester son of James Kirby and Selena Door. On the 1911 census he living with his parents James and Selena but Elsie is not with him nor with her parents? William is listed on census as Married.
Any help appreciated.

William is listed on census as Married and from my understanding the 1911 census was taken 2nd of April? So they must have gotten married April 1st or a day before? Unless William wrote on the census he was married when he was near to marriage date...I don't know?

They'd been married a year by then as they married in 1910. When was the first child born, could she be staying with a relative while awaiting the birth?

Yes, Sorry didn’t release I had 1910/1911.
First child I can see was Ada Kirby born 1910 Leicester. Can’t see her on 1911 census through FindMyPast.

So it looks as if Elsie must be somewhere with Ada in 1911.  ???

Assuming I have the correct parents.
My grt nan was Doris Kirby born 1916 Leicester. Mothers maiden name is Burt. Only Burt marrying a Kirby I can see is Elsie and William.
Every tree has these as the parents and I have dna matches through this line so must be correct.

Ada's mother was a Burt as well. They were probably staying with someone else on census night and their names have been transcribed incorrectly. Or perhaps it was William who was away from home.

Did Elsie have any siblings, have you checked to see if she was with them?

Unfortunately she is not with any siblings.
Elsie is the oldest child born 1889, Her next sibling is born 1897. All other siblings are living with parents Christopher and Elizabeth in 1911.

Looking at the 1911 I don't think William is with his parents at all, I think they have misunderstood how to complete the census form and have listed all of their living children.  It appears to me as though the last 3 - Mary, William & George - are included in error.

The military record for George (George Henry Kirby born 1887) would seem to confirm this as he was in India from 4 Mar 1909 until 19 Sep 1914, and specifically in Madras from 13 Feb 1911 to 4 Feb 1913, yet he is also listed with his parents in 1911.
