Greetham baptisms 1720s - in particular Mary PEASGOOD baptised Dec 1727
« on: Wednesday 12 September 18 23:21 BST (UK) »
An unsourced tree published on Worldconnect.rootsweb.com shows the following family of John & Mary PEASGOOD ;
Elizabeth bapt Nov 1721 Greetham, Rutland
Thomas bapt Jun 1724 Greetham, Rutland
Mary bapt Dec 1727 Greetham, Rutland
John bapt Aug 1733 Greetham, Rutland
Aquila bapt Mar 1737 Greetham, Rutland
Jane bapt Mar 1739 Greetham, Rutland

I can validate the last 3 children via FamilySearch and FindMyPast.

It is the first 3 that I can’t validate.

In particular, I am trying to find the baptism of “Mary PEASGOOD baptised Dec 1727 Greetham, Rutland”.

I am comfortable that Mary married Matthew PILKINGTON on the 28th March 1749, because Matthew PILKINGTON was a witness to the marriage of Aquila in 1768.

Can anyone help me with this baptism, please.

Regards
Grantley

Just to save other Rootschatters time:
FreeREG have no Greetham baptisms
FamilySearch Greetham baptisms start in 1729.

Philip

ADDED:  According to https://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/rutland/vol2/pp134-138#h3-0003
"The registers before 1812 are as follows: (i) all entries 1576–1709; (ii) baptisms and burials 1729– 1812, marriages 1729–54; (iii) marriages 1754–84; (iv) marriages 1784–1813. There are churchwardens' accounts from 1788."

This would suggest that Bishops Transcripts might be the only surviving records.

I have the LRFHS CD of Rutland bp's including Greetham.
All the children of John & Mary you mention are listed and against the first three it states the records are from BT''s only.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Philip and forte. That has helped heaps.  :)

It appears that FindMyPast has the images prior to 1710, so my next trip to the library should hopefully take me back further.

I see the LRFHS records are in transition to a new website, so it will be interesting to see what will be available.

Once again, thank you.
