Weird ancestry.co.uk
« on: Friday 14 September 18 00:00 BST (UK) »
I've discovered a new branch of my tree (thanks roots.com!).  This couple had 7 children but 4 of them died as children.

I'm really not liking that it asks to search for details of a child's marriage when it's holding that she died when she was 15 months old.

Is there any way to block this function?

Another issue is it displaying my great grandfather as the spouse of my great grandmother.  He wasn't and the site shows him as the father of my Grandad and as having no wife.

Any ideas?

(I've tried contacting ancestry about the second issue but have had no response yet.  I did try deleting the app and reinstalling after I'd severed the inaccurate marriage connection.)

Thanks

You can set a relationship as "Partner", "Friend", "Other" or "Unknown" ;D

Open a person's profile.
Then select "Edit" and "Edit Relationships" from the top right of the profile screen.

Not sure I understand your first point though?
As the user, you are in charge of all searches - just don't select Marriages!

Perhaps I’m just a sensitive soul.  The marriage prompt is there each time I open the record and (as with 3 of her sisters) she died very young.

As far as I can see my great grandfather is correctly set as my grandfather’s father and not the spouse of my grandfather’s mother.  I’m not aware of any relationship after he denied paternity.  It also means his parents don’t show as being my great great grandparents.  I’ll end up losing track.

I assume the "add spouse" button in the right hand column of the profile.

As the accepted marriageable age has changed over the centuries it wouldn't always be appropriate to blank this option at an arbitrary cut off.

No it's in the LifeStory section.  It has pale bluey-green boxes that say something like "Search for information about Maud Mary's marriage".  There doesn't seem to be anything to tick to clear this.

I never use the LifeStory tab at all! ;D

Just tried it with my uncle (Dad's brother) who died  at a month or two after birth.
I don't get any hint or suggestion re a marriage?

Have entered a Death against these people?

It's an option not an instruction. Ignore it. (That's a suggestion.)

The Life Story section had my GF's 1st wife on a census 3 years after her death.  ???  It was 2nd wife on census; both wives had same 1st name.
