Albert WOODGER - Can anyone find him in 1891?
« on: Monday 17 September 18 13:29 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I'm trying to find Albert Woodger on the 1891 census but just can't. I'm sure it's a transcription error but I just can't find him or any of his family.

I know I can't ask for a copy of it but if someone who is better at this that I am is able to find the family and tell me how it's spelt that would be really appreciated.

Albert Woodger was born in 1882 in Monkwearmouth. In 1896 his father John died and in 1901 his widowed mother, Mary Ann was living in Elswick with him and his 3 brothers (William, John and Edwin) and sister (Georgina). By 1911 his mother had remarried (Boddy) and was still in Newcastle with William and Albert.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Michael

Edit: Sorry everyone, I've made a mistake. It's 1891 I can't find him, not 1901 as I'd previously said. I've changed the title. Sorry.

In Elswick . On ancestry the spelling is WOODGER

Albert, Edwin, John Henry and Georgina ( all Woodger) are listed as children of Mary Ann Laws, a 47 year old widow

hmm just noticed you said his Mum remarried as Boddy?

Not sure why she's called Laws in 1901? Though there is a marriage registration Q2 1898 (added) in Newcastle for a Thomas Laws with a Mary Ann Woodger on the same page

and another marriage 1906 Q2 Sunderland with a Mary Ann Laws and a Robert Boddy on the same page

Perhaps Mary Ann had a fondness for wedding cake (and bad luck with husbands dying)

Thanks very much Boo, I hadn't spotted any of that. I'll have to start looking again at her.
