Harpur family trace to return a family bible.
« on: Wednesday 19 September 18 07:35 BST (UK) »
Via my grandmother (Ethel Mary Stewart Nee Harpur) a family bible has been handed down via my mother to me. My adult sons have no interest in family history or keepsakes and I am trying to find a way to trace a direct family link in Ireland to the Harpur's who left Ireland to migrate to the Cape colony. Hopefully they would be interested in having the Bible returned to them.
John Harpur of Wexford married Frances Malloy of Cork on 19.11.1848 and had 3 children William, Margaret and Laurence.
We  cannot find out when they migrated but assume it was sometime after 1850 and before their son, and daughter in law had their first grandchild in 1874 in Grahamstown. John died in Grahamstown in 1875 and Frances in 1878.
My grandmother's 2 brothers both died without issue in South Africa.
I have written to the local Wexford press to see if there was any interest in this family hunt story but they have not replied, so assume the answer is no.
I have tried to find traces of John and Frances in the Irish census without success.
I have not placed this enquiry under 'Bibles' as I feel its more to do with tracing family.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem with their marriage is did they marry in Cork the brides parish and have their children there or did they move to Wexford and have their children there.

John Harper/Harpur is a fairly common name in Wexford
