Mary Emma Rowe. About. 1840. Lanviet Cornwall
« on: Friday 21 September 18 00:07 BST (UK) »
Mary Emma was married to William Charles Rowe 1839 born Cardinham. Mary Emma was born in Lanviet about1840.
I have searched Ancestry, Freereg and Cornwall opc only to find no results as to marriage or any other information about Mary Emma. What does come up in searches is the marriage of Charles James Rowe to Emma Reynolds.
   Please can you help,

Who were their children?  Have you checked freebmd for birth registrations then checked GRO online for mothers maiden name

Edit

1881 shows 3 children Henry 8 Joseph 2 & Emily 5

The 1879 birth in Bodmin would seem to match Joseph - mmn Runnalls. Same mmn on Emily’s birth

Emily Rowe 1876-1937
Edwin Rowe 1881-1928

Found the index no. for William Charles Rowe 1865 birth certificate, so how do I go about finding his mother from that other than sending for his certificate?

Check on the GRO's on site which now shows mmn - William Charles 1865 and John 1869 both comes up with mmn as Reynolds so looks like the marriage you found is the right one.

Emma Reynolds bp.23/8/1840 Lanivet, dau. of Richard (as shown on marriage) and Mary.

So, Mary Emma born as plain Emma - William Charles b.1839 mmn Lobb - census shows his parents as John (as shown on marriage) and Mary.

Can't explain why they keep changing their names though.

If you first look on freebmd for some or all of the childrens birth registrations then use that info on the GRO website to establish mmn - you will have her maiden name

I found  2 - see reply above and mmn was Runnells

Annette found marriage to Reynolds - as did you

I have just checked Edwin’s birth via GRO and mmn was RUNNOLDS

Now - add together a high level of illiteracy in those days plus a broad Cornish accent and possibly Reynolds could sound like Runnells / Runnolds to somebody registering the birth
