Thanks for trying Maiden Stone. I'll see what I can do about reporting the variations of the town name.

You have given me some idea of the size of the land. That is something I didn't know before. Thanks :)  Still trying to figure out the two people on the same parcel. If 49 is as small as you say, these two men on it must have been in pretty close quarters and living pretty lean! :)

Thanks to you both!

I had problems looking at this on National Archives site. I couldn't view the whole of the left page so only saw from number 49, at top of r.h. page.

A handy way of moving from page to page is to change the last digit of the address. In this case to go back a page change the 7 to a 6

The Applotment books are known to be in a mess,

You can say that again! I've been browsing my GF's parish. Names of landholders among search results for one townland included Poor Arable and Rocky Pasture. Mr/s Arable and Pasture shared 5 acres. Landholders' list of another townland included 2 whose forename was Bog, obviously a popular first name in the area. Other forenames I noticed were Mill and Land. A "surname" transcribed as Swane was actually swamp.  ;D

The search gives 42 Bog, several have Unrecd or similar with I assume stands for Unreclaimed Bog, some have peoples names others appear to just be the name of the bog.
The way it's written the transcribers have but Bog as the surname.
Another 14 where Bog is down as first name. ;D
Hadn't noticed that before.

It's all the Fose that amuse me, should be Fox.

I know instruction for transcribers is transcribe what you see. However I assumed the resulting transcriptions were checked before being released.

I wouldn't be too sure of that, people working from film on handwritten records of a country they don't know is bound to throw up a lot of errors.
I'd say just getting them online cost enough without checking them as well, which I assume is why they include the correction facility.
To be fair we are getting them for free.
