Canadian WW2 service?
« on: Friday 21 September 18 09:05 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I had a great great aunt who emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1926 and she had two sons that would have been the right age to serve in WW2, is there an easy way of checking to see if they did?

Bert KEMP born 25/11/1911 in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England
Sidney Horace KEMP born 30/04/1920 in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England

Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Paul

Open Records - There are no access restrictions on the service files for members of the Canadian Armed Forces who died in service between 1939 and 1947, including those killed in action, those who subsequently died of injuries related to service, and those who died as a result of accident or illness while in service.

Restricted Records - For all other Second World War service files, access restrictions apply. The personal information contained in the service files is protected by the provisions of privacy legislation.

Canada Voters List shows a Bert Kemp in 435 Pine Street Sudbury Ontario in 1949 - occupation Hoistman. Also shows a wife Lillian.

Bertie Alfred William Kemp married Lillian Thelma Adair 1 June 1934 Sudbury, Ontario.

Bertie Alfred William Kemp married Lillian Thelma Adair 1 June 1934 Sudbury, Ontario.

This looks like a match for
birth registered Mar qtr 1912 Mutford vol 4a p2167 KEMP Bertie Alfred William mmn BROWN
(General Register Office births index).  Mutford registration district included Lowestoft.

For completeness (from FreeBMD):
Jun qtr 1920 Mutford vol 4a p2428 KEMP Sidney H mmn BROWN
Mar qtr 1923 Mutford vol 4a p1927 KEMP Kenneth H mmn BROWN

The passenger list shows the third son Kenneth Kenp - there is one that appears on Canada Voters Lists in Sudbury Ontario 1949 - 165 Riverside Drive.  Kenneth was a truck drive. Also showing wife Lilly and a son Russell (also a truck driver).

Could be a remarriage for Ken.

Hi Sandra & Philip,

Thank you for the information, I didn't have the marriage date for Bert's 1st wife Lillian Adair so that was nice to add, and he remarried 30/12/1966 to Joan (I don't have her maiden name), but that was the wife I met the few times they visited family in the UK.

Kenneth married Irene Deluzio, and then his second wife was Joanne McInnis.

It's a shame that the family has lost contact since Joan's death otherwise i'd have more details.

Regards
Paul
