I just now realized I never responded to either of your suggestions etc, and I do apologize. The last few years are somewhat more chaotic than usual.

My father was definitely RAF; I found his service number on the Forces War Records site. Apparently you need to pay 30 GBP to order the records, so I guess that's out.

I tried the link but it timed out (of course, it's been a while) but I did find those records. My father's name isn't in there it seems. I did find records where he apparently asked to come into Australia from Malaysia after his enlistment terminated, but none of the payment methods are an option alas.

In any case, thank you *very* much for thinking along and the suggestions!
