The new birth index on GRO gives the maiden name for Edward Charles Nash as Harriss.

Are you researching Edward Charles Nash? The reply from cath151 gives details.

Have you followed the link given for POW records?

Yes,  I have his POW details and have contacted Bishops Stortford College to confirm his attendance there. I know his mother's maiden name was Harriss, Harries or Harris. I just don't know his father's name. I've tried FREEBMD without success.

It could be that the easiest way to confirm his father's name is to buy a copy of his birth certificate.  GRO now offer a PDF for 6.

Under the title "Father captive Son missing" in the newspaper previously mentioned, "his father, a Naval Store Officer, Admiralty, Hong Kong is a POW."
There is the following on the 1947 Navy List (no other details)
A Nash - Civil Officer Serving under the Admiralty in the Naval store Depot, Glasgow.

Nothing to link them unfortunately, perhaps a Civilian Pow if he was captured in the East.

I have three brothers born to Ms Harriss in Brentford -
Edward Charles Nash, 1911
Frank John Archibald Nash, 1915
Alan Richard Brine Nash, 1917.

I've found references to their father as A Nash, but I cannot find a marriage for them. I've tried FamilySearch and FreeBDM until I'm blue in the face. I've also tried Ancestry to no avail.

Help!

The birth registrations show the mother's maiden name, which usually helps to find the marriage......but not if the bride was a widow.

Could the couple have married abroad?

Their first child was born in 1911 in Brentford, they probably married a years or two before that date.
