So I guess the question is, is there a database of people who were excommunicated?
Can a person be un-excommunicated?

Was he married before he took part in Fenian activities?
Was anything written on children's baptisms?

There would'nt be a database, i think it would be a matter of conscience aimed at people who took the oath of a secret society.

John Devoy writing about Matt in 1904 Gaelic American said Matt missed the rising 1867 due to an accident something he regretted all his life, the only accident ? i can find is that he married in Castletownbere around the week of the rising, what or why he was there i do not know as he lived in Dublin at 11 Sandwith St with his father prior to his marriage to Nora Green,Cahergarriffe, and was leader of one of the biggest circle's in Dublin 1,200 men.

all his 10 children were baptised their mother Nora being a devout catholic.

You'd expect if he had been excommunicated the priest would have noted that on the baptisms, it's quite possible he didn't want a mass when he died, he wouldn't be the first to do that.

Assuming the priest who performed the baptisms knew about their father.

The Fenian's or I R B were a secret society only they knew who took the oath, priest's would not be aware of every individual who took the oath only the more famous one's like Rossa who had gang's of children but never heard of him having any problem with priests.

So as i said a matter of conscience in the head you know you took the oath so therefore you are excommunicated according to the catholic church.

I had the same thought that it may have been Matt's wish not to be churched before burial.
