Records for India
« on: Saturday 29 September 18 18:47 BST (UK) »
I've discovered a family connection with India in the 1850s and beyond.
He was Walter William Jiggins, born in Orsett Essex 1859 but married twice in India, had a host of children and died out there in 1906. Buried in Bombay. The wives families all appear to be born there also, this is very intriguing. Are there any pointers to searching for these people, I can't figure if they were army people or civil service. One chap, a Josiah William Ballard, one of Walters wives father appears to have married twice too, once to a Matilda Phanre in 1876, an Indian woman...I think, and again in 1885 to a Laura Catley. Kids everywhere!

Any help as ever, greatly appreciated.

Hi,

findmypast also have quite a lot of India records,

You seem to already know about something Walter's marriages but you can view the images at findmypast, it shows that when he married Harriett WALSH in 1886 he was a Private in the 2nd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment and when he married Grace May BALLARD in 1896 he was an Engine Driver.

Regards,
Daisy
