Great to read & an amazing feast. Thanks for posting it.

I have read recently that some older people are opting for a party with family & friends BEFORE they die so they can enjoy their own largesse, then no wake after their funeral.

A wake is a vigil before a funeral. Mourners keeping watch with the corpse. The reason was to prevent the soul of the deceased being stolen by the Devil.

Sorry, didn't know the definition  :-[. Many use the word - obviously wrongly - for the post funeral get together.
