Ellen Marrack, 1860, Penzance.
« on: Monday 01 October 18 12:12 BST (UK) »
In 1881 at RG11; Piece: 3607; Folio: 64; Page: 18 (Liverpool) an Ellen Marrack (1860, Penzance), unmarried, is Head of Household with younger siblings, including Helen M.

I an unable to find any trace of her before 1881 census.

Can anybody help?

(Apologies if I've put this in the wrong county. Family moved to Liverpool c 1870)

Later: I've found a baptismal record on FreeReg - for an Ellen Maud, baptised 1861, but this is surely Helen Maud in the censuses. Wonder if there was confusion by the 1881 numerator  ???

I wonder if Ellen is Maria  :-\

I think she may be Helen M.

Ellen Maud Marrack baptised 17 July 1861 Penzance , Richard John Marrack and Mary ( Sommers )
Helen Maud Marrack 2Q 1861 Penzance 5c 362

Edit : GRO gives mmn as Daves so not sure about the above.

Yes Christine, I think so too.

Unless anybody comes up with a better answer, I'm going with "Enumerator Mistake".  :P

Thanks

I was confused by mother's maiden name as Daves on the GRO records but mother given as Mary Somers on the baptism , however I've now found Richard John Marrack married Mary Simmens Daves
3Q 1856 Penzance so that makes more sense.

I believe Ellen is Edwin

This is the family:
GRO Births - Penzance MARRACK mmn DAVES
Mary Louise, Jun qtr 1858 vol 5c p336
Edwin, Jun qtr 1859 vol 5c p367
Helen Maud, Jun qtr 1861 vol 5c p362
Melville, Mar qtr 1863 vol 5c p359 (transcribed as MARRACH)
William Daves, Sep qtr 1867 vol 5c p298
Ida Kate, Jun qtr 1868 vol 5c p329

1891 census RG12 2906/133 p17 Galton Street, Liverpool
MARRACK Edwin, 30, single, head, emigration agent, born Penzance

As "Ellen", 21, emigration agent, born Penzance is on the 1881 census I am confident that the enumerator had a bad day!
