Bristol burial - searching for a location or record
« on: Monday 01 October 18 16:30 BST (UK) »
Hi!

I'm looking for a likely burial place for my 3 x great uncle.
His name was Francis James Gamlin, born 1890 died 1893 aged 2.
Very tragic circumstances - the family lived in Pennywell Road and Francis was playing with a friend nearby on the ash tip in Fox Lane.  He picked up a discarded bottle & drank the contents, which turned out to be carbolic acid and he died within an hour.

I have found his baptism record, which was at St Werburghs Church - now the climbing centre, so I'm wondering if he's buried there but I don't know where to check.  Or he could be somewhere else entirely!!

I have the cd of Bristol municipal burials from BAFHS so I know he's not at Greenbank with the rest of the family, or Canford, Avonview, Ridgeway, Brislington.

Any help or pointers much appreciated!

Thanks for your reply 😁
I have been through BAFHS website with a fine tooth comb but no luck unfortunately.
On your suggestion I have emailed Bristol council, do am waiting for a response from them.

In the mean time I have been searching for complete parish records for st werburghs but again, no luck.
It's strange because theost logical place is Greenbank, with the rest of his family

There is also the possibility (probability?) that he doesn't have a separate grave?

Infants were almost always buried in a conveniently open grave

I did hear that.  He would still be on the burial records though wouldn't he?

He is buried at Greenbank but surname has been spelt as Gamlen:-

GAMLEN Francis James buried 27 September 1893, parish is St. Philip, 3 yrs, died 22 September 1893.

Deaths Sep 1893
Gamlin    Francis James    3    Barton R.    6a   51

For some reason the above is not on the GRO register.
