Francis melville in ireland

Thank you all for helping me...i got the first name wrong sorry...my gt gt gt granddad was Francis melville born around 1806 the 1841 census does say Galway ireland..he moved to stamfordham Northumberland don't no what year...but he got married to Sophia Maxwell at st Nicholas church in tynemouth in 1828....i just wondered f the census says ireland.where is the papertrail that led them to put ireland  on the census....thanks again....jenny

im trying to find my gt gt gt uncle a mr thomas melville,,,born in 1811.in galway ireland.i keep hitting a brick wall....any one know how i can find birth records.....jenny

So this man is not the one and we are looking for a grandfather Francis not uncle?

No mention of Galway though. Presumably, he offered Ireland as his birthplace.
 Perhaps later censuses?

There's no 'paper trail'- the enumerator was told place of birth and then recorded it.

He is not with the family in 1851 2413/456/9

So I think I'm going to have a tough job in finding anything new on Francis melville or his family and where abouts in ireland...if I went to Galway...and went into library's or churches would I find any local references....

Some records are deposited in Dublin, others don't survive but many Irish records are online (and lots of them free). To get details you'll really need a location (townland or city not just 'Galway').

If the family were Catholic- many of the parish registers are online. However, you'll need to know the parish or search each one. Not all parishes have records back to early 1800s.

There is a tree, I think it is yours Jenny, where Francis is shown as b Galway. The links to the censuses are the ones I have quoted which just show Ireland.
However, the Thomas Melville, I found earlier is linked as a brother and he does show Galway.

Do you have evidence that the two men are brothers - baptism sponsors or marriage witnesses etc?
