Mystery man - Herbert Parker
« on: Wednesday 03 October 18 04:03 BST (UK) »
On the 1881 census RG11/1077/82/2 at 4 Montague Street Brighton, in the household of John Rogers, is the following....
Herbert Parker, boarder, single, 22, Groom Domestic Servant, born Brighton Sussex.

Can anyone find any other record that would be Herbert?

Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received.

Jo  :)

I only get a section of the listing: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q274-SPFG

Im curious, whats the difference between a boarder and a lodger? I thought they were the same thing.

Boarders get their meals included, lodgers don't. ;D

There's no birth for Herbert Parker 1859 Brighton on the GRO so he may be difficult to find.

I'm hoping that he can't be find anywhere else.

I have been tracing my 2xGGrandfather for many years and can account for him on all except the 1881 & 1911 census records.

He was known to use several aliases and on a newspaper article in 1882 he is recorded (under another alias) "as a groom, and as having recently moved to Cardiff from Brighton, with little information of his career in Brighton known".

So, working under the assumption that his yob was about 1859 (he was born in 1858 but on various records fudges his age up and down a ten year radius) and that he was a groom in Brighton in 1881, I am trying to find possibilities that have no other past or future records?

Herbert Parker is looking a good option so far but was hoping another set of eyes could rule out a life for him not yet found.....
