Nottingham Poor Houses
« on: Wednesday 03 October 18 07:23 BST (UK) »
Two of my family were put in a poor house in Nottingham for a time.  They appear on the Census of 1901 living at 1 Normanton Place, Normanton Street, Nottingham.  There is no trace of them in the 1911 census.  They are sisters - Florence and Ada Ryde born 1898 and 1899 respectively. I have a photo of them which I think may have been taken when they left the Poor House perhaps in their early teens. Their mother was a widower by 1901 but went on to have other children and I don't know her change of name but I suspect this is when the two older children, Florence and Ada, were sent away.

If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated.

You may have guessed I am new to this!
I am amazed by this information!  I will need to figure it all out, if you know what I mean.
I do know that Emma married Arthur Ryde (I have the marriage cert.) and I assumed this was her first marriage.  However, she as a son Ernest who was born before she married Arthur.
Incidentally I can't find out much about him although I was told he died of Spanish flu.
Thank you all so much.

My initial suspicion (which could be quite wrong!) is that his father was someone called Leonard BRADY and of course his mother Emma Elizabeth was not married to his father (hence the lack of maiden name in the GRO index)

SORRY - i've inadvertently altered this post - it was meant to be quote from this post with an add on in the chain. So now I can't remember exactly what I had put there before  :)
A recommendation to order the death cert for Ernest Leonard BRADY
and a comment about Arthur Harry RYDE and the Boer war....
