Family Footsteps TV Series
« on: Friday 05 October 18 13:07 BST (UK) »
Has anyone else watched this?

It's a BBC Northern Ireland TV Series and the first episode can be seen on iPlayer:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bltvn5/family-footsteps-series-1-episode-1

It follows a family as they live the lives heir ancestors lived and the grandad researches his family tree.

Episodes are only half an hour and only one has been broadcast yet, but it looks like a good series.

I watched this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. My O/H who usually gets bored with this type of program enjoyed it too.

The 3 wee girls were hilarious especially doing the laundry the old fashioned way.

Won't say any more in case others want to watch it but we are looking forward to further episodes.

Thank you Clarkey500.

Episode 2 which was shown last night in Northern Ireland is now available on the BBC iPlayer.  Interesting to watch as I've also visited the PRONI and obtained copies of old school records.  The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum is a must for visitors too, likewise the Ulster American Folk Park - though thankfully you don't have to stay the night with Mary the goat these days!  Makes a nice change seeing "ordinary" people in the limelight instead of celebrities.

Another brilliant episode.

Loved Mary the goat but don't think I would want to share a room with her.

My own ancestors must have had a tough life in the Towlands of Antrim and Down before coming to Dundee, Scotland to work in the Jute Mills. This episode made me realise just how poor they must have been.
