It does look probable that Ann Petherick married William Thomas Harris  2 children pre 1911 from the GRO Birth Index

WILLIAM  JAMES CLEMENT HARRIS mmn  PETHERCK
GRO Ref: 1902  March Qrtr NEATH  Vol 11A  Page 921

IVOR  GRAINGER  HARRIS mmn    PATHERICK
GRO Ref 1905  March Qrtr NEATH  Vol 11A  Page 1004

And I think this is the family in 1911 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWXF-H46

Good find!
Okay "janes7kiwis " .

You can order birth and marriage certificates from here: (use ONLY this site-it's more expensive elsewhere)
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/app_select.asp

Kay & I seem to concur that the 1901 Neath marriage is the best bet for you.
If you get it, tell us exactly what it states, and we'll try and take it back from there.

The 1901 birth certificate would be quicker to obtain (as a PDF) , but the details on it may not be enough to target whose house the child was born at.

Good luck,  Pauline

Thank you so much for the information you have supplied in which I can further research. Martha was married on the 18 April 1901, Neath district, Glamorganshire, Wales. So I will look for a marriage cert. based on your suggestions. So grateful for the links and hep!

I’m a bit perplexed as to who this couple(Harris) would be in relation to Martha? We’re they living in the same home at the time of the census?

Sorry - My previous post  was confusing.  They married with the same reference on FreeBMD as your Martha Williams and John Mathais as below

Marriages Jun 1901

HARRIS    William Thomas        Neath    11a   1399
MATHIAS    John        Neath    11a   1399
Petherick    Anne        Neath    11a   1399
WILLIAMS    Martha        Neath    11a   1399

I was just making sure that William and Ann  married each other by checking for  children and the couple in the census.   They are unrelated to your Martha and John   :)

OK, so when marriages are recorded in the index, there are 2 couples/ 4 names per page in the index, (listed alphabetically) and we don't know how they pair up.

So Kay went looking and found the kids from the Harris marriage, and decided that it's more than probable that Harris wed Petherick and Mathias wed Williams.

suggestion for Martha in 1881 in neighbouring parish of Little Newcastle

Colston Village, Little Newcastle RG11/5424 folio 83 pg 13
William Williams head mar 30 labourer b. Carncookcoo
Ann wife 28 b. Parkyborau
Martha dau 3 b. Lambston
John son 1 b. Little Newcastle

1891 Puncheston RG12/4541 folio 72 pg 2
William Williams head mar general servant b. Little Newcastle
Anne wife 37 b. Puncheston
John son 11 b. Little Newcastle
Anne dau 7 b. Puncheston
Thomas son 6 b. Puncheston
Mary A dau 4 b. Puncheston
Myfanwy dau 1 b. Puncheston

Martha may not have known she wasn't born in the Puncheston area like the rest of her siblings.

Birth reg of Myfanwy march qtr 1890 Haverfordwest vol 11a pg 1089 has mmn of Lewis. Death reg for Myfanwy aged 4 june qtr 1894 vol 11a pg 589
Birth for Martha sept qtr 1878 Haverfordwest vol 11a pg 922 mmn Lewis

Ann's occupation in 1911 would explain why Martha went home for birth of her child!
