Tonight there is going to be a concert and service between 5.30 and 7 pm at St Nicholas' Cathedral in Newcastle upon Tyne.  This event will be held to remember the fallen from the Great War.

Amongst those performing are the Backworth Male Voice Choir and the Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers who will be singing songs from the Great War.

Sorry, about the short notice about this event.  I have only just learned of this from an article in my local newspaper.

Hello River Tyne Lass. Thank you for this posting; I am thousands of miles away but I will be there in spirit to remember my two Uncles who are commemorated on a brass plaque on the wall at St. Nicholas Cathedral: Charles Thomas King and Michael King who were killed in the Great War. patrexjax

Hi Patrejax,

Thanks for your post letting me know you would be there in spirit.☺  Unfortunately, I was unable to go either due to shift work, although I would have liked to.  It's a shame we both missed out.

Have you been able to see your ancestors names on the plaque in person?

I wonder if your 'King' ancestors might be somewhere on the North East War Memorials Project website (see below)?

I don't know if you know this but this local website has a feature called 'Every Name A Story ' feature.  People can send in their war ancestors stories and the British Library is archiving this information for the future.

I have sent in my ancestors stories as I think this is a good way to commemorate their memories and so that their sacrifices won't be forgotten.

I don't know if this might be something that you might be interested in or if you have the time.

I will put a link on so that you can see this website for yourself.

I have put my home town as an example.
