James Hunter Pepper born 25th Dec 1904 Airth, Stirlingshire.
« on: Saturday 06 October 18 17:42 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I have had a real problem trying to find what happened to the stepson of my Grandfather John Jackson born Carluke 1883-1958 other than an entry in the 1911 census.
He was born 25th Dec 1904 an is recorded as illegitimate. He was given the name James Hunter Pepper and was the son of my grandmother Marion Taylor Pepper born Airth, 1878-1957, prior to her marriage to my grandfather (the above John Jackson). I have his birth certificate.
I have him in the 1911 census where he is recorded as a Stepson to my grandfather John Jackson and now has the name of James P Jackson (I assume the "P" is short for Pepper).
If anyone can help find a marriage or a death, I would be really grateful.

Kind Regards,

John

Have you looked at the family trees on Ancestry.  One shows he died in 1961 but doesn’t say where

A James Jackson died Stirling 1961 aged 57

Hi CaroleW,

Many thanks for your reply. I have logged on to Ancestry this morning and cannot locate a tree with James in it. If you could give me the name of the tree it would be a great help.

I have already downloaded, some time ago, the death record for James Jackson who died 1961 in Stirling - it is not him.

Thanks,

John

I just put James Hunter Pepper - Scotland and the tree came up.  It appears to be owned by vreiri and is titled as follows:

Carpenter McGown MGill Reid Goodger Welsh Kitson Dron Family Tree

It shows his father as James Hunter b 1883 Bothkennar Stirling

This looks like a Class A example of someone finding a death that looks as if it fits, and assuming it is the right one without bothering to check.

Never believe anything you find on a tree on Ancestry or any other genealogy site unless it's an image of an original document.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Have you tried/applied to find him in 1939?

Did your Father ever talk of this (missing) brother?
