OK, I can now see the entry on the war memorial - my thoughts had been that Essex was a mistranscription (attaching Essex to Hockley as E comes before W  :-\  :-* )
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The new memorial was put there 10 years ago, put there by the Parish Council, the Hockley Legion did not have him on the original panel, in the premises.
When I looked into Walter from Hockley Warwick I found on " A" site the " Soldiers Effects a clue being his widow Matilda, only marriage was in 1911 Bakewell.
I understand someone found the death of Walter Fletcher 2753 of Hockley Essex, and included him on the memorial.
Please ask any amount of questions, if we can get any more information.
I have tried to find the transcription for the death, with no luck.

But CWGC record Walter Fletcher 2753 has NO age at death, no next of kin nor Date of birth.

so what dataset/record refers to Matilda?

Walter doesn't appear to have made a will (www.gov.uk/probate-search) - shame.  :'(

Have you thought of trying to contact Northumberland Fusiliers Museum?  If they are anything like the Staffordshire Regiment Museum, they may have a lot of very knowledgeable people.

I'd also be inclined to try to see the original entry for Walter in the UK Soldiers died in the Great War, rather than a transcription.

Added:  I might even purchase the marriage certificate to see what information that might hold.

I wonder:

1911 Census has a Matilda Richards, aged 20, born Dudley, visiting her married sister, Gertrude FLETCHER, aged 28, born Sedgley - husband - Alfred, aged 27 born Hockley, Warwickshire.  Family living in Bakewell  ;)

Added:

Alfred Fletcher and Gertrude Richards married 1907 - Dudley Registration District

I was looking for Matilda Richards, found her with the brother, and then the father, GRO ref the mother confirmed the family, 1891 census without Walter.
I did ask for help from the Northumberland Museum, but there was a charge, I am trying to keep my costs down.
I have used my local newspapers , and have found useful  information on other men, tried. British Newspaper online, no joy, not familiar with areas.
Thank you for your time

The anomaly appears to be Hockley, Warwickshire and Hockley, Essex.  I really think that the original entry in the UK Soldiers died in the Great War is the key to the answer.

I agreed, if someone knows where I can find a copy.

Once again thank you both for your help and interest.
