Richard Connolly
« on: Monday 08 October 18 15:37 BST (UK) »
Richard Connolly was my great-grandfather who died in the South Dublin Union on 2 December1910. he was pre-deceased by his wife Elizabeth (Bowen). He was aged 76 when he died, which would make his year of birth 1834. My problem is I can only trace his father (William) and family back to a lease on a small-holding in Ovidstown Co. Kildare, which was signed in 1840. The landlord of the property was Nathaniel Barton of Barberstown Castle. Any ideas on how I could trace the family before 1840 and possibly where Richard was born? He would appear to have been 6 years old when the 1840 lease was signed.

Aghadowney:
Richard was R.C. Family folklore suggests that prior to moving to Ovidstown, they may have lived in the Monasterevan area of Kildare. But I have never been able to verify that information.

Death lists age as 76 but I couldn't find him in 1901 census-

Only Richard Conn*ly, born Kildare and widower brings up this one age 54 with son John- note address similar to above death-

Son of Richard Connolly & Elizabeth Bowen (John) born 1870-https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1870/03362/2232760.pdf

Elizabeth Connolly, wife of Richard, died 1893 aged 58-

Hi Dathai
I think they may have been brother and sister to John. I have Michael listed as being born 1854 and Mary 1859 as children of Richard & Elizabeth Connolly.
