Charles Henry Jinks
« on: Wednesday 10 October 18 14:53 BST (UK) »
Hi there, Is anyone able to find out for me the above gentleman's WW1 service (if there is one) He was born in 1892/93 in Stoke on Trent Staffs. One of the listing is from Birmingham and was born in 1877 so I'm ruling him out, but cant find the birth town or dob for the other he is listed as service number 285814 in the Royal Engineers (he is listed as Charles H Jinks so not even sure it stands for Henry but I would suspect so), Jinks is often spelt Jenks just to make things easier  ;D  any help gratefully received as always. richard

Did you check freebmd for his birthyear?  None b Staffs under Jinks or Jenks between 1891-1895.

What census do you have him on confirming his birthyear as 1892/3 and his birthplace as Stoke on Trent?

Where did you get his surname from as there is no 1901 or 1911 entry matching his profile.  Take a look at freebmd in 1891 and 1895 there are entries for Charles Henry Jewkes in Dudley

Many apologies Carole I put the wrong decade 1883/84. Its on the 1911 census living with his wife Alice and 4 children in Alfred Street , Fenton, Stoke on Trent. Apologies again for earlier error.  :'(

Many thanks , is there any way I can correlate the information I have with any military history from WW1 , specifically the chap from the Royal Engineers?  To see if it's my GG Grandfather or not ? - thanks Richard

285814 CH Jinks was a Sapper in the RMRE. He didn't serve overseas & was discharged after 5 months due to sickness so there wouldn't have been much on any service record anyway.
