David Roberts b c 1839 Llansannan
« on: Wednesday 10 October 18 16:56 BST (UK) »
I hope someone can help. I have previously asked for help regarding a Jane Roberts. Now I am trying to find out more information about a David Roberts, who according to various census returns was born in Llansannan. I have matched to him through DNA testing, with the suggestion that he was my great grand uncle.

I can see from the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census returns that he lived in Llanfair Talhaiarn. He was married to an Anne, born in 1842 in Llanfair Talhaiarn. They had children Mary (1861) Elizabeth (1863), Catherine (1865), Sarah (1867), Sephora (1869), Robert (1872), Richard (1874), William (1877), Alice (1880), Thomas (1882) & Ellen (1886).

On the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census returns, a MARY JONES, a widow, born circa 1819, is listed as being the mother in law of David Roberts.

I looked at the birth records for the children on the GRO website and can see that Anne's maiden name was KYFFIN, I had expected this to be Jones based upon the census returns mentioned above. I found a marriage record for David Roberts and Anne Kyffin on 3rd November 1860 in Llanfair Talhaiarn. David's father is recorded as Robert Roberts, a carpenter. Anne's father is listed as John Kyffin, a labourer. Witnesses were a David Luke and MARY JONES.

I cannot find a marriage anywhere for David Roberts and an Anne Jones. I cannot find the family on the 1861 census either. Neither can I find David in 1851. I did find Ann Jones, with her mother Mary, on the 1851 census at 3 Water Street, Llanfair Talhaiarn though.

I am not sure if the Kyffin name is a red herring or not.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Looks more likely to be correct than not.

Coming back, i found this record:
KYFFIN, ANN       -     1842  M Quarter in ST ASAPH  Volume 27  Page 228

Which infers that Ann's father may be a polite fiction.

"Wales, Denbighshire, Parish Registers, 1538-1912"
   Anne Kyffin
   Baptism
   27 Mar 1842
   Llanfair Talhaearn, Denbighshire, Wales

Looks like FindMyPast & other(s)? might have the original

Hi,
David Roberts and Ann Jones are my 3x great grandparents, their daughter Mary married David Hughes. I have a Baptism record for Mary but no actual marriage for David and Ann, there are many people on Ancestry with the same details. I don't think I have birth certificate for Mary, so that is something I will do.
PM if you would like further info
Kind Regards

I think we all have surmised that Ann was a Jones because of the mother in law on 1871 census being Mary Jones and there are so many Mary Roberts in the births, it would be a records office job to look on the microfiche.
