Tunstall Hall
« on: Wednesday 10 October 18 18:42 BST (UK) »
Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows anything regarding Tunstall Hall, Market Drayton? I have looked online but but can’t anything useful.

It was built c1732. My ancestor, Weston Bayley, was said to have lived there, however I can’t find and information to back this up. He died in 1759.  The Revd Peter Broughton appears to have been living there in 1809 according to an article I found in the Chester Chronicle.

Anyway info gratefully received.

Jay

Hello
There is a Will for a Weston Bayley of Drayton 1764 which names his wife Esther and a very large mention of his grandson Weston Church Bayley who will inherit the estate after Esther's death but at the time is under 21.Will made Nov 1750.

The couple married at Stoke on Tern in 1723  and seem to be having children at Madeley 1724  until 1727 and daughter Frances.
It looks like his father Weston's Will proven in 1727 after his death in 1724 may have instigated the move.Weston received amongst other things land in Audlem but I can't spot mention of Tunstall Hall or estate in Shropshire. However the writing is quite hard to understand.

The Will for 1764 is a PCC Will on Ancestry and the earlier Will is on FindMyPast.

The estate seems to have been sold by a Mr John Heath 9.4.1808 according to the Staffordshire Advertiser.

Hi me again
Just had a look at the National archives catalogue.
Mention there 1752 of Peter and Eleanor Broughton of Tunstall Hall Salop gaining custody of Ann Greswold a lunatic. The full thing is at Warwick Archives.

The estate papers for Tunstall Hall are at Shropshire archives.
But the first item suggest that your relative may have been working the farm or a tenant rather than living at the Hall.
Maybe a trip to Shrewsbury is needed.
